Description

1949 Springbok # 11 Jerey. "Made in England for Fletcher & Cartwrights Cape Town."

Originally swapped with Kevin Skinner, who then passed it to Charlie Saxton.

Bought at the 2017 Charlie Saxton Collection auction held in NZ. Has considerable fading (photo showing difference front to back) and couple of stains near front buttons (assume might be blood as per photo) A note from the 2017 auction suggested it was worn by and swapped with Van Schoor was a back (2T, 3T, 4T) Tjol Lategan was a back (1T, 2T, 3T, 4T). This was a false assumption that # 11 was a winger (as per modern numbering)

The # 11 in this four-test series was worn by a South African flanker. The programmes indicate 4 different men. 1st Test L. Strydom. 2nd Test J 'Salty' du Rand. 3rd Test H. Koch. 4th test programme lists team but not numbers - So #11 in the 4th Test would have been either Piet Malan or skipper Basil Kenyon.

Considerable fading on front rectangle where it has obviously been folded and framed.

Each auction will remain OPEN for 5 minutes after the last bid has been made.

In the final stages, do not solely rely upon emails to advise if you have been overbid, delays with servers can occur, please check the actual auction site.

Hammer price subject to a buyer's premium of 20% (plus GST for local buyers) see AUCTION INFORMATION for more details. Delivery charges on application.
