This jersey features the 'pronking' Springbok. Used only in 1963 and 1964. Peter played all 4 tests in the series. The first 3 test were against ABE Malan and the final test against Ronnie Hill.
Interestingly it does carry the green 'Safnit' label. Rather "Markhams Clothes". with 'Name', 'Size', 'date' and 'cloth' listed. Peter Johnson has handwritten 'Peter G Johnson" and "SEPT.'63" Gold # 2 in cloth. Shoulder cross stitched In VG condition - one small hole on left sleeve. Believe swapped with Ronnie Hill.
From the Peter Johnson '453' jersey collection. Peter played rugby for Australia for 14 seasons (1958-1971) accumulating the then record of 42 tests (1959-1971).
Furthermore he played 215 1st Grade games for Randwick, 12 matches for Sydney, 34 for NSW and 49 Wallaby Tour games. He was inducted into he Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1989 and in 2016, Johnson was inducted into the Wallaby Hall of Fame. He was a member of the 1971 Presidents (World) XV that played England at Twickenham to celebrate the RFUs Centenary. Jersey comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
